The national official launch of the Time To Deliver Campaign was held at Bingu International Convention Centre in Lilongwe on 17 March, 2026, under the theme: ‘Walk in Her Shoes.’

The launch was presided-over by Honourable Minister of Health and Sanitation, Madalitso Baloyi, MP, as the Guest of Honour.

The campaign has gained massive momentum, and apart from The White Ribbon Alliance for Safe Motherhood (WRASM) and WaterAid Malawi (WAMA), it is also being championed by National Organisation of Nurses and Midwives of Malawi (NONM), Malawi Health Equity Network (MHEN), Water and Environmental Sanitation Network (WESNET), and NGO Gender Coordination Network (NGO GCN).

Using the power of advocacy spearheaded by influential Community Structure Women and Frontline Healthcare Workers, the campaign seeks to improve maternal healthcare by addressing WASH challenges in healthcare facilities through the provision of clean water and decent sanitation for mothers, their babies and frontline workers as a way of breaking the chain of the spread of infections.

The event was special in the sense that it started with a solidarity match, which the Minister also joined.

In her speech, Hon. Baloyi emphasised that: “the findings from recent maternal death enquiries show that infections remain one of the leading causes of maternal deaths, which highlights the urgent need to improve WASH services in healthcare facilities.”

At the launch, WRASM Executive Director, Margaret Loma Phiri, also underscored on the need to unite in dealing with the WASH related issues that are affecting maternal health.

“We are ALL a Government because government is people and therefore let us support the government leadership at all levels of healthcare delivery system to do the best for Women’s Health because women hold the key to future of the NATION,” said Phiri.
